Bryan, James H.: Civil War Letter. May 1861

Description

A letter from James Henry Bryan (1842-1914) to an unknown friend (George). Bryan was born in Hackensack, N.J. and enlisted in the New Jersey 2nd Regiment Militia, Company H. He was a part of a zouave group which were considered elite fighters. At some point after the war he made his home in the Westfield, Massachusetts area. He is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery in Westfield.
