An undated document handwritten by Martha C. Bailey of West Granby.
The poem was likely copied from a periodical known as The Slave's Friend where it was published in Issue #3, July 1835. The Slave's Friend was published in New York City and mailed to subscribers as well as sent to various post offices in the U.S., including in the south where it was known to be burned on arrival by some pro-slavery postmasters.
Transcript is a best guess at some of the words. The reverse side of the document has some doodles and recipes.
