Granby Road 0006, Granville Grange Hall, 1890

Title

Granby Road 0006, Granville Grange Hall, 1890

Description

Granville Grange, 1890, 6 Granby Rd. MACRIS inv. GRN 76. Building no longer exists.

According to Wilson's "History of Granville" (page 118) George Gaines, a wheelwright, built and painted wagons in this building before it became the Grange Hall. The Gaines home was located next door where the Granville Library now stands. In order to build the library the Gaines house was moved to its current location on Main Road immediately east of the library.

The following additional building history is from a discussion on the Granville Community Forum (FB) June 22, 2018:
1. A singing school is believed to have been in the building, with a music teacher who visited town weekly to give lessons.
2. In the mid to late 1970's the building was used as a Halloween "Haunted House," organized by Valerie Roberts. John Slack played "The Incredible Hulk" and would jump off the porch roof to scare kids.
3. Around the same time the building housed a coffee house sponsored by a local Christian youth group.
