Rowley, John Henry (11 Sep 1868 - 28 Nov 1933) and Mary Evaline (Noble) (02 Feb 1868 - 23 Dec 1957)

John Henry Rowley (11 Sep 1868 - 28 Nov 1933) and Mary Evaline "Mattie" Noble (02 Feb 1868 - 32 Dec 1957) were both born in Granville, MA. Their parents had small farms and their fathers, William Rowley and Edwin Noble, worked at the drum shop. John and Mary also worked at the drum shop. They married in 1892 and moved to Hartford where John became a partner in Wilcox and Rowley, a building company focused primarily on residential construction.

John's cousin Frank Rowley (1860-1941, the son of Henry Rowley. 1828-1876 and Mary Jane Webb, 1841-1866) also moved from Granville to Hartford where he too became a builder. Frank's brother, Roswell Rowley (1863-1944), married Julia Shoughrue (1865-1956). They worked at the drum shop and lived at 522 Main Road for many years.

John and Mary's first child first child, Levi was born in 1893. Mary was given a silver cup by her Granville schoolmates, who had created a fund to purchase the cup for the first in the class to have a child (according to family legend).

Mary and John are buried at the Silver Street Cemetery, Granville, as are Roswell and Julia. Henry Rowley and Mary Jane Webb are buried in the Northeast Cemetery, Granville.

11. John and Mary's headstone, Silver Street Cemetery. It is visible from the road, in the upper section of the cemetery.
