Description

Letters relating to Isaac W. Barker (1841-1862), born in North Blandford, Massachusetts, the son of Thomas F. Barker and Clarissa Watkins Barker. Like many young people of the time Isaac left Blandford and went west to Ohio where he lived with the family of George E. Blakeslee, also from Massachusetts.

Isaac Barker enlisted in the Union Army on May 20, 1861, serving in Company D, 23rd Infantry, Ohio Volunteers. He died on September 14, 1862 during the Battle of South Mountain. CLICK HERE for information about the battle.
