Edward Lyman Jones Letter, 1850
Title
Edward Lyman Jones Letter, 1850
Description
Original letter followed by transcription.
Edward Lyman Jones (1814-1893) was born in Chesterfield, Massachusetts. This letter was written in 1850 from Lansing, Michigan to Jones' aunt in Chesterfield. How the letter ended up in Granville is a mystery.
In the letter Mr. Jones describes his life to his long lost aunt, with whom he had lost touch many years earlier. It is a fascinating account of "The American Dream" as it was in real life during those times, when the dream was much different from how most people view it today.
