Description
An account of the resource
Tirzah Seymour married Jesse Alexander, a widower, from Columbia, Pennsylvania, February 24, 1847.
Tirzah and Jesse had one child, William Seymour Alexander, born abt 1848.
Tirzah died September 25, 1849 of consumption/inflammation and is buried in Woodlands Cemetery in Granville, MA.
In 1851 when Tirzah’s father Deacon William Seymour died, his wife Maria Collins Seymour became guardian of her grandson William Seymour Alexander. (Source: Ancestry Dea. William probate recs of 1851).
Jesse went on to marry Deborah Affa (Affa Deborah) Spelman of Granville (daughter of Samuel and Affa Spelman) January 23, 1850.
Jesse and Deborah had one child, Earnest (Ernest Clifford) (Cliford Earnest) in 1851 and moved to Illinois. Here they were joined by Emma Alexander age 17, born in Pennsylvania. Presumably Emma is Jesse’s daughter from his first marriage. (Source: 1860 Federal Census).
Jesse served in the Civil War – Co. H. 31st Wis. Inf., enlisting August 21, 1862 (Source: 31st Wisconsin Infantry Roster).
Jesse died January 28, 1902 and was buried in an unmarked grave in Lena, Illinois. In 1938, a veterans’ bureau in Chicago applied for an upright veteran’s marker for that grave.
Jesse and Deborah’s son Earnest Clifford died July 12, 1907 in Illinois at age 55/56. (Source: Illinois Select Deaths).
According to FindAGrave.com, Deborah (Affa) went on to live until March 17, 1908 and is buried in Lena, Illinois with Jesse and their son, Earnest….the only marker being Jesse’s veteran marker.
