<text>This photo has turned up in two family collections (Aldrich and Clark). Both families were from West Granville in the vicinity of West Hartland Road. Kathleen Bracken, who provided one of the photos, asks the questions, "Where is it? Who is in it? Is it a schoolhouse? Why are there so many adults in the picture? Why is everyone so dressed up? Is it a special occasion?"

One theory is that is it the "union school" which had a cost sharing arrangement between Granville and Hartland, with the cost based on number of students attenting. Location is not known for sure but it would have been close to the Granville/Hartland border.

The occasion might have been a graduation event but that does not explain why so many children are wearing matching outfits while others are not. However with so many garments during that time being hand sewn perhaps they were made at home for a planned event. Perhaps the story of this photo will continue to unfold as more copies and information comes forth.</text>

<text>Thanks to Kathleen Bracken for solving the mystery of this house. It belonged to Fred Beers Clark (1864- ?) and was located across the river (Valley Brook, aka Great Valley Brook) from his father, Benjamin Clark, Sr.

The second photo is of the Benjamin Clark family in front of the house. This was probably taken after the death of Benjamin Clark, Sr. who died in 1889. The two girls sitting on the ground are Mildred (left) and Hazel (right) Clark.

The third image is the obituary for Benjamin Warner Clark, son of Benjamin Clark. He is likely the man in the center of the family photo.

Fred Clark and Annie Nelson married in 1885 and according to the note on the back of the photo lived in this house until Annie died in 1896.

Fred remarried, to Laure Tait(sp?) in 1898. Unfortunately Laura passed away and Fred married for the third time in 1912 to a woman with the intriguing name of Louisiana Beauregard.

A phoho of Fred's father's barn is at THIS LINK.</text>
