Hamilton Burying Ground (Part 1), Tolland, Massachusetts
The Hamilton Burying Ground is located in Tolland, MA on Rt. 57 just over the Granville line. It is unmarked and not visible from the road. Due to past vandalism of stones most are either on the ground or gone.

See the PDF file on this page for more information and a list (incomplete) of burials. The second image shows the location of the cemetery on the 1894 Tolland map; it is the first cemetery on the left after crossing the Granville-Tolland line, traveling west on Route 57 from Granville. It is extremely difficult to find and is on private property.

On October 18, 2022 the old burying ground was located and photographed. CLICK HERE to go to the 2022 photos and GPS coordinates of the cemetery.

To link to the Find A Grave page for this cemetery CLICK HERE
Hamilton Burying Ground (Part 2), Tolland, Massachusetts, October 18, 2022
On October 18, 2022 (Day 2 of their search) Mike and Elsie O'Neil were successful in locating the old Hamilton Burying Ground. This is great news for Hamilton descendants.

You can cursor over each headstone to view the image filename, which includes the name on that headstone.

Mike and Elsie were kind enough to share their photos on this page, for which we are grateful.

Mike gave this account of the search:

"I’ve attached my traced path my daughter and I took on day 2 of our attempt to locate it. That house you can see nearby is the first house on the south side of rt 57 after you drive past the cell tower heading west from Granville. Follow my path from the pull-off where I parked my truck and and read the terrain. You’ll see an uphill landscape that suddenly becomes very much flat and improved on the inside of the rock wall. The grave stones are exactly where they were in the old photos. My bloodhound of an 11 year old girl located one buried under the leaves laying down which I propped up against a nearby tree. It’s one of the larger trees obviously but these stones don’t stick out unless you’re really looking around for them. Even the nearby massive glacial erratic blends in!! Good luck! It’s almost within sight of rt 57 now that the leaves are falling."

GPS coordinates are 42.0796, -72.9876 (see map below).

CLICK HERE view Part 1 of the Hamilton Burying Ground history and photos.

CLICK HERE for the Hamilton Burial Ground Find-A-Grave page.
